Alliance Health is a managed care organization operating one of North Carolina’s Behavioral Health and Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (BH I/DD) Tailored Plans.

About Alliance Health

Alliance is responsible for managing the total health care needs - including medical care - of children and adults with serious mental illness, substance use disorders and intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as adults served under our Traumatic Brain Injury waiver.

Alliance manages services for people who are insured by Medicaid under the Tailored Plan within the following counties:

  • Cumberland
  • Durham
  • Harnett
  • Johnston
  • Mecklenburg
  • Orange
  • Wake

Tailored Plans
In North Carolina, Tailored Plans are integrated health plans designed for:
  • People with significant behavioral health (mental health and substance use disorders) needs
  • People with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DDs)
  • Other special populations, including Innovations and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) waiver enrollees
  • Non-Medicaid behavioral health, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and TBI services for uninsured and underinsured North Carolinians

Some benefits are available only by enrolling in the Alliance Health Tailored Plan.
These may include:

  • Tailored Care Management that is provided by behavioral health agencies and Advanced Medical Homes that have been certified by the Department of Health and Human Services, and by Alliance care managers
  • Enhanced mental health services including intensive substance use disorder outpatient services
  • Home and community-based waivers, like the TBI and Innovations waivers
  • Special residential treatment programs for children
  • Intermediate Care Facilities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Specialized services for the uninsured and underinsured with mental health, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and substance use disorder support needs
