This presentation will review the basics of parent child interaction therapy (PCIT), an evidence-based treatment for young children with disruptive behaviors. Over time the treatment has gained evidence support across a variety of diagnostic groups including anxiety and ADHD, and more recently is being used with young children (ages 2-7) with ASD.
We will provide a brief overview of the evidence base supporting PCIT and discuss the two core components of therapy: child directed interaction (CDI) and parent directed interaction (PDI). This presentation will also provide concrete coaching strategies from PCIT that can be used in your clinical practice to help reduce disruptive behaviors and improve parent-child engagement in play.
Contact hours and CEUs offered for NASW-NC, NBCC, NC Psychologists Category A, and NCSSAPB.
