NAMI Durham Educational Meeting

January 5 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Virtual Event
Presented by Kathy Hotelling, Ph.D., ABPP, Co-founder and Board Chair of NCFASD Informed.
This program will examine the overlapping characteristics of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and mental health diagnoses and explain the importance of differential diagnosis in improving mental, emotional, behavioral and social outcomes.
FASD is an umbrella term that encompasses a range of conditions that can occur due to exposure to alcohol in utero; FASD is a developmental disability. The effects of fetal alcohol exposure can include behavioral, learning, and physical problems. Prevalence of this developmental disability is one in 20, but 90% remain unrecognized or misdiagnosed. A diagnosis of FASD can lead to early intervention and appropriate strategies that will improve the affected individual’s lifetime outcomes.
